Alan Becker has been a collector and student of Italian philately since the age of 15. Of his many passions, the transportation of mail on the steamers that ply their trade up and down the lakes of northern Italy are one of his keenest.
This new book charts the history and postal history of the most famous of the lakes, Lake Maggiore. It is profusely illustrated (many in colour) with maps, pictures of the steamers, examples of letters and documents, as well as tables of the postal and other marking to be found on mail carried on the lake. It also contains a guide to the value of the postal marks.
