The Italy and Colonies Study Circle is a society dedicated to the study of the stamps and the postal history of the Italian area. (Why Italy? Click here!) . The membership is drawn from around the world, with the majority coming from the UK, Italy and the USA. Members meet once or twice a year, including a weekend meeting at a pleasant hotel in an interesting location where displays are given and all things philatelic can be discussed.

The society started life at a meeting on 28th September 1974 after an advertising campaign in the philatelic press seeking collectors interested in Italian philately. One of the first decisions made was to publish a quarterly journal. This 20 page typewritten document soon grew into the highly acclaimed, full colour journal called Fil-Italia. It was the only significant source of information on Italian philately in the English language. (Sadly, publication ceased at the end of 2023 after 196 issues. However, the whole 49 years archive is available to members).

The society holds an auction for members twice a year, and there is an exchange packet system for members living in the UK. It also publishes a newsletter with contributions from the membership.
